Smart Electricity Meters FAQs
Why are my electricity bills higher with a smart meter?
If you were previously using post-paid billing for your electricity bill, then your bills were probably estimated by the City. Smart meters send readings as and when needed making it possible to get exact billing details.
Is electricity cheaper with a smart electricity meter?
Electricity token prices are not dependent on which type of meter you are using. However, a smart meter can give you all of the information you need to figure out how to reduce your energy consumption and lower your monthly costs.
Do smart electricity meters affect Wi-Fi performance?
Smart electricity meters should not interfere with your home Wi-Fi. Smart electricity meters communicate via the 2.4GHz band but should overlap channels. This means that interference is extremely unlikely.
Does a smart electricity meter replace the old electricity meter?
Yes. A smart electricity meter will replace your old electricity meter. Smart meters are able to perform the function of old meters and so much more in addition. To learn more about smart electricity meter functions, check out our blog.
Prepaid Electricity Meters FAQs
How do I buy prepaid electricity tokens?
Buying prepaid electricity tokens with Inpower is easy! Simply click the “Buy Prepaid” button in the navigation bar at the top of the page and follow the instructions.
Is electricity cheaper with a prepaid electricity meter?
Electricity token prices are not dependent on which type of meter you are using. However, you will never get any unexpected bills at the end of the month if you are using prepaid and you are only able to use the electricity you’ve already purchased.
Diesel Generators FAQs
Are diesel generators better than petrol generators?
Both diesel generators and petrol generators have advantages and disadvantages. Ultimately, it depends on the specific application. Inpower experts will be able to assist you in deciding which is best for you.
Can a diesel generator run for 24 hours?
This will depend entirely on the make and model of the generator you own. Always refer to the manufacturer’s website for maximum run rating.
Where is the best place to put a diesel generator?
The placement of a diesel generator will depend entirely on the type of generator, and the type of property on which the generator is being installed. One needs to consider noise pollution regulations, toxic CO2 emissions regulations, and more. If you’re unsure, always consult with your Inpower experts.
Uninterrupted Power Supplies FAQs
What does an uninterruptible power supply do?
A UPS is a device which allows electronic equipment (typically routers & personal computers) to stay powered up during a power outage. It detects a cut in electrical power and the on-board battery power takes over.
How long does an uninterruptible power supply last?
This depends on a few factors. It depends on the size of the battery packs, the type of batteries installed and the amount of power being drawn from the batteries. For the most part, a properly installed UPS system in a residential environment will easily last for 3 hours (more than enough for the duration of a typical load shedding schedule). However, batteries do not last forever and their lifespan is measured in the number of charge and discharge cycles before it begins to lose performance.
What is the difference between a UPS and an Inverter?
All UPS systems contain an inverter, but not all inverters are UPSes. The key difference between these two backup power solutions is the amount of time it takes for power to be delivered by the system in the case of an outage. The standard for a UPS is roughly 5 milliseconds whereas an inverter can range drastically from 25 to 500 milliseconds.
Power Utility Management FAQs
Why is power management important?
Power management involves monitoring and optimizing energy consumption. This is important for many reasons – reducing costs, and reducing carbon emissions are two of the most important.
What benefits does power management have for body corporates?
Body corporates can enjoy many benefits from proper power management. Optimising the power consumption of a residential block will decrease tenants’ utility bills, and improve the tenant-landlord relationship.
Solar Power FAQs
Is solar power a good source of electricity?
Solar power is one of the best sources of renewable energy in the world. The photovoltaic cells generate electricity throughout the day and store this energy in battery packs. That means that the energy a solar power system generates can be used at night.
Can a house run on solar power alone?
It’s entirely possible for a house to run solely on solar power. However, this depends entirely on a number of factors such as the aspect of your property, as well as the parts of your property you’re willing to dedicate to solar panel installation. For most people, grid-tied solutions are the most viable option at present.
What is the lifespan of a solar panel?
Solar panel longevity is improving all the time as the technology becomes more and more refined. One average, solar panels are rated to last 25 – 30 years but will still be able to generate electricity after that period, just at a lower than guaranteed rate.
Do solar panels need batteries to work?
Solar panels will be able to generate power without batteries, but if there are no batteries installed there will be nowhere to store it. It’s essential for solar PV systems to include batteries and inverters such that the power they generate can be used effectively during an outage or in the evening.
